Cooking For The Perpetual Bachelor

There~s no good reason why a single man shouldn~t know his
way around the kitchen. Having every meal at a restaurant
is too costly and not healthy to boot. Every guy should be
familiar with basic cooking skills as they will help him
keep that boyish figure and save money besides. Don~t
forget that these rugged individuals can rub two sticks
together and start a fire right after they pitch the tent.
There is no shortage of easy-to-make recipes that can be
thrown together quickly by a well equipped bachelor. After
all, there are lots of places to get cooking ideas --
cookbooks, Internet recipe sites, and sometimes mom may be
able to come up with a few good suggestions. No single man
has to go hungry.
Just as the Boy Scouts say, our novice cook should BE
PREPARED. This motto holds true for the kitchen as well as
other aspects of life. There are some essentials that any
self-respecting aspiring cook should have in his kitchen.
For starters he~ll need at least two cooking pots; one big
enough for stews, soups, pasta and other large dishes, and
a smaller one for sauces or heating up canned goods. Frying
pans are also essential; again a large and a small at the
minimum. Think in terms of cooking eats for the Monday
Night Football enthusiasts. Some handy utensils include
wooden and metal spoons, both slotted and solid, some
spatulas and storage containers such as Tupperware for
keeping those leftovers fresh.
With just these few items, any guy can be nearly god
like (or at least Julia Child-like in the kitchen). Once
you have your gear, remember to start small. There is
no need for you to be jumping into some complicated
French dish that includes difficult to pronounce
shellfish and far too many vowels. Try something
manly like chili or hamburgers. Maybe spice things up
by mixing some simple dishes (chili burgers, perhaps?).
With a little time invested (and maybe a burnt hand or
two), any guy can be a whiz in the kitchen and not only
impress the ladies, but feed himself in the process.
Always remember to follow the recipe at first (there
will be plenty of time to come up with some ~off the
cuff~ concoctions when you buy your first Hibachi, in
the meantime, remember to go easy on the jalape~o
powder and have some fun in the kitchen!
